From the Harbormaster

harbormasterAs many of you know, I am still in the process of transitioning my family to Ottawa. On a recent return trip from “Down South”, I was letting my mind turn over all of the good things that Ottawa would mean to my family as “home”, the things that made me want to bring everybody up here to enjoy and be a part of. Every facet that I thought about just made the smile on my face get bigger… First of all, there’s Ottawa itself-not too big and not too little. All of the services and conveniences that are essential for comfortable living are within minutes of the Harbor. You name it, medical services, shopping, services of all shapes and colors and a community that understands taking care of their residents are right here- but without the bustle and frustration that you face in a bigger City. I thought about the natural beauty that surrounds us here. You have the Illinois River, the prairie and forest, the State Parks and an array of flora and fauna that just makes you want to stop and share the moment with folks that you care about.

Then I thought about Heritage Harbor itself. What an inspiration in a great area! I’m so proud that I was able to join the team here, and be a part of the progress. These beautiful homes with some of the best views that you can find anywhere- I mean where else can you watch a Great Blue Heron fish for his breakfast while you have your morning coffee? The Marina itself is state-of-the-art, and the (now thoroughly) proven design and infrastructure is welcoming and secure. As I watch folks boat in and out of the Harbor, I know that they are able to go out and enjoy themselves and their families in a tight-knit and friendly environment.

The final piece is the people. From the moment that I set foot at Heritage Harbor, I have been welcomed by some of the nicest and most genuine people around. From the Heritage Harbor team who welcomed me here, to the slipholders and home owners who have been so warm and helpful as I make the transition, to the folks in town that have been so friendly and excited to show me what a great town Ottawa is, and some of the wonders of Starved Rock Country that they already know as “home”.

As I approached the Harbor, I realized that there are plenty of people who don’t know how wonderful Heritage Harbor really is- but I think that if they visit and take a moment to think about what life is like here, they would be here in a heartbeat… and I’m so happy to share it with the folks who are already here!

It’s summer time! The River is gorgeous, and I can’t wait to see you all on the water!
