Ottawa Regional Hospital and Healthcare Center held its sixth annual 5K run/walk for cancer awareness  this Saturday morning, October 9, 2010.  The Starved Rock Country community is full  of runners and walkers  who were all decked out with their mp3 players, baby strollers, dogs and hints of pink who came out to  enjoy the amazing weather, offer each other support and raise money for this great annual charity event.

300 participants preregistered, but  many choose to register the morning of the race as some choose to  wait to see what the weather will be like and thanks to mother nature’s splendid cooperation the day couldn’t have been better.

Last year, only 316 ran the five kilometers down the colorful I&M Canal, however this yrear’s turn out was much bigger  hovering around 500.

The annual fundraiser brings the community together and this year the Starved Rock Country residents came out to show their support for those touched by cancer and for each other. In a community like ours, we know our neighbors and come together to help each other out.
