The show is sponsored by the Ottawa Art League and promotes student interest in the visual arts.  It provides an opportunity for local students from the Illinois Valley area to gain experience in displaying their art in public.  The show is open to middle and high school students.  It is open and free to the public and gives the community the chance to see the extraordinary creative talent of local students.  Entries are judged and awarded ribbons, gift certificates and cash prizes.

LEARN, HUNT, BUY…MOREL MUSHROOMS during Ottawa’s Annual Midwest Morel Fest.  This unique festival offers ‘everything mushrooms’ from the morel enthusiast to the curious observer!  All events take place at Jordon Block Park (Main & Rt 23/71N).  Enjoy a large variety of handcrafted Vendors, Home Brewers Tasting Tent and Competition, Food and  Music.  And don’t forget  MOREL UNIVERSITY where you can learn to identify morels then take off for a guided hunt.  We have set aside land JUST FOR YOU!  Both hunts have limited availability. Registration fee  $15 kids under 13 AND  $30 for 13 and older. Cost at the door will be $25 for kids under 13 and $40 for 13 and older. For more information contact the Ottawa Visitors Center at 815-434-2737.

Spring Migratory Bird Hike @ Starved Rock State Park
May 6 @ 7:30 am – 9:30 am

Join the park naturalist and local bird expert, Tom Williams, as we hike to seek out resident birds and greet our spring migrators. Bring your binoculars and your favorite bird guide. Hike lasts approximately 2 hours. Meet at the Starved Rock Visitor Center at 7:30 a.m. Hike lasts 2 hours.

MASH UP Homebrew Tasting @ Jordan Block

Now in its fourth year, the MASH UP Homebrew Festival is a friendly gathering of Homebrewers sharing their beer with you! Admission gets you samples of the best homebrewed beers our competitors have put on the line. Judges will pick the Best Brew and the Mayors Choice, while you – the people – will get to vote on People’s Choice. Come try over 50 different brews from clubs all across Illinois! If you have a club and want to join in on the fun give us a call so we can get you signed up.
