Going Green

The River

It seems as if everyone is talking about “going green”. Well you can’t get much greener than Starved Rock Country. From rural farmlands, to the tree lined roads that welcome you home, Heritage Harbor Ottawa is surrounded by green. The Majestic Illinois River provides not only beauty and recreation, but an energy efficient way to move the areas abundant agricultural crops.

Be sure to stop by Tracy’s Row House to have a bite to eat on the patio, you can people watch before hitting the charming downtown shops.

The Grand Ridge Wind Farm located to the south of Ottawa is a sign of the times. As anyone from Illinois will tell you , Chicago is not the only “Windy City” in Illinois. Our communities are looking to the future and using the readily available resources. If you take a drive out of town you will see the amazing ways that Starved Rock County is harnessing green technology in harmony with the vast farm land in our rural communities without disrupting the natural beauty of our home.

Head on over to the I & M Canal and take a walk or better yet grab your bike because the ride is truly beautiful. The fresh air will not only calm your senses the serenity will feed your soul.

And of course Starved Rock Country is home to the magnificent Starved Rock State Park, Buffalo Rock, and Matthiessen State Park. Breath taking views, trees as far as the eye can see and more green than you could ever imagine.

The most scenic views can be found by wondering the canyons and climbing the trails.

So go green because there is just something amazing about the peaceful quiet.
