Illinois & Michigan Canal State Trail: Snowmobilers  may use 61 miles of groomed trails following the canal towpath which is open 24 hours a day after a 4” accumulated packed base. Access points with parking, toilets and picnicking facilities are located at Buffalo Rock, Gebhard Woods and Channahon state parks. Access may also be achieved in the communities of LaSalle, Utica, Ottawa and Marseilles. Historic stone aqueducts, canal locks and panoramic views of the Illinois River are located along the canal. For a map of the canal and more information, contact the State Trail Office (815) 942- 0796.

Besides the I& M Canal trails there are various snowmobile clubs right here in Illinois that have offer a variety of scenic trails to enjoy. Ride for a few hours or make a day of it. Starved Rock country has more to offer than you ever thought possible!

Illinois has nearly 2,500 miles of trails, the majority of which are provided by local Illinois clubs and cross privately owned land. There are also public snowmobiling areas that are located on state and county-owned land throughout the northern half of Illinois that offer a variety of scenic opportunities.

How Fun Is That!

Trails themselves are created through the efforts of local Illinois snowmobile clubs, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, local municipalities, supporting business and the many landowners throughout the state of Illinois who are generous enough to give snowmobilers access to their land. Many local snowmobile clubs and county snowmobile associations provide maps of trails in their area, helping to ensure your safe and enjoyable passage within their region. Be certain to obtain a map of the area prior to venturing out on your next excursion and stay on the marked trails–the future of our trails depends on us respecting the private property owners who have opened their lands for our use.

If adventure is what you seek then Starved Rock Country has what you are looking for!  Boating in the Spring and Summer and cross country skiing or better yet snowmobiling in the Winter. Come enjoy the beautiful snow covered lands that we call home!
